I joined the gym in January, like everybody does. The difference, I think, is that I didn’t have any gym-bunny-body goals. I just wanted to de-stress, have some me-time, and maybe invest in my body a little bit since 99% of my life centres around my brain.
To me, #20fleekteen is about self care rather than looking a certain way (not that aesthetic goals are bad or wrong – it’s just not a priority for me right now.) This approach to gymming has been really empowering – I’d like to put it down to maturity, but it’s probably more about giving less of a fuck. Is giving less of a fuck a sign of maturity? Eh, I’ll take it.
I didn’t expect to enjoy gym as much as I do now. After a couple of months of adjustment, I’m in a comfortable routine and it’s something I look forward to. Like some sort of godforsaken lifestyle blogger.
I’ve been wanting to make this video since February – a lot of the anecdotes in it are from my first few weeks of joining. But life got in the way, and I’ve been in a very rough place lately. I’ve had to be very patient with myself while I waited for my creativity to return. There was about a three-week gap between filming the video and finishing the edit. Having the strength to finish this video and put it out there feels amazing. There are a lot of parallels between exercise and creativity, aren’t there?
Speaking of which, you’ll be seeing a lot more content from me soon. I bit the bullet and bought a lighting set up for myself, which means I can film at night in the darkest, gloomiest house in the world! This is so exciting because I’m such a night owl, I usually get inspired and antsy to make stuff at night, but I couldn’t bear the thought of putting up a video where half my face is covered in shadow (unless it’s supposed to be a ghost story? IDK.) With my new lights, I can film wearable-brown-eyeshadow tutorials at three in the morning if I wanted to. (I know, I know, just because I can, doesn’t mean I should….)
So thanks to that segue burning a few calories for us, let’s get down to the video itself! Watch and let me know what you think in the comments. And if you like it, like it, and all that jazz.
